Dog Pound officials are gearing up for a potentially busy weekend with fireworks going off and the possibility of dogs running away.
Tuscarawas County Pound Facility and Adoption Specialist Beth Lewis says one action is ensuring a dog has a well fitted collar or harness and dog licenses attached.
“Just for safety because you never know when those fireworks are going to go off. Make sure that that dog has identification on it at all times. Make sure that the information attached is up to date with current address and phone number.”
Other tips include limiting evening outside activities, confine the pet to a smaller space if agitated, or provide a long-lasting treat.
“While int eh house you can turn your TV up or some music on. Leave a fan running. Something to kind of drown out the big booms.”
She also advises, for those attending a fireworks display, to just leave the dog at home.
