An extreme heat warning is active, and health officials want everyone to take precautions.

The National Weather Service issued the warning effective until Friday, July 3rd at 10pm.

On average, more than 1,200 people die nationwide from heat-related causes every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff provides tips for heat exhaustion or heatstroke prevention.

“Drinking plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty, scheduling outdoor activities very carefully. If you’re outside for any length of time, make sure to wear loose, lightweight, light colored clothing, and sunscreen, and pace yourself.”

Symptoms of heat exhaustion can include dizziness, headache, nausea, a fast weak pulse, and cold clammy skin. Vanderhoff says if any symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical help.
