Mary Alice Reporting –

A five-year tax levy is up for renewal on the general election ballot and voters for Tuscarawas County and parts of seven other counties will vote on that issue.

The property tax is for 1 mills and collects over $3 million annually.

Buckeye Career Center Superintendent Bob Alsept stress that this is not a new tax and the dollars are used for the school building facilities.

“And of that money collected, about 75% of it goes to the general fund and the general fund largest expenditure is salaries and benefits, but 25% of that goes to our building fund, which can only be used for permanent improvements, repairs, or any new construction that we have.’

If approved, the renewal would pickup in 2025 with Alsept noting that Buckeye enrollment is currently at its highest in the past ten years, making the need for the property tax passage critical to continue operations in training the next generation in a variety of careers.
