Tuscarawas Central Catholic has started the final fundraising push of its seven million dollar campaign to renovate the 55-year-old junior and senior high school and its athletic facilities in New Philadelphia.

The “Building on Excellence” campaign aims to build an auxiliary gym and field house, expand the existing chapel and renovate lower level of the school. Campaign board member Mike Fredricks says they are about halfway to their goal, with 3 million collected and
another million pledged.

He says the new buildings and renovations would benefit the children, but TCC would also like to open up the new facilities to the community.

TCC Principal Jen Salvo says it’s tough balancing an athletic schedule for students in grades 7 through 12 with just one gym. And the youth programs at the two elementary schools are growing as well, so those gyms are often occupied.

Tuscarawas Central Catholic is collecting donations on its website and planning open houses and
other events for the coming year.
