The Tuscarawas County Health Department is offering free colon screenings by appointment or walk-in on select dates and times.

Health Promotion Director Jennifer Demuth says that grant funding from Gaurdant Health is allowing these screenings for adults age 45 and older who do not have active symptoms of colorectal cancer and with no family history of the disease in parents or siblings.

“Come into the Tuscarawas County Health Department as a walk-in on Mondays March 16th and 23rd between 9am to noon, or Wednesdays March 11th, 18th, and 25th between 2pm and 6pm.”

A valid ID card is needed to verify age. Each free screening is an FDA-approved “Shield by Guardant” colorectal cancer (CRC) blood test.

“This is not any kind of surgery. It’s not like the take home box. You just come in, do a simple blood test, and the results coming back in about two weeks.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and this type of cancer is among the most frequently diagnosed in Tuscarawas County.
