Mary Alice Reporting –

June is national pet preparedness month and the Tuscarawas County Health Department is providing information.

The month aims to remind owners to remember their pets when it comes to disasters by having a “to-go” bag for their animals with food, water, supplies, and any medications.

Director of Health Promotion Jennifer Demuth says to promote this awareness, the health department will post tips on social media and they are holding a drive-thru event on Tuesday, rain or shine, from 3:30 to 5:30pm, at their office building in Dover.

“Each of our free pet emergency preparedness bags will include an LED clip-on pet safety collar light, a pet waste bag dispenser, pet care coloring book, tick remover, hand sanitizer, pet clean-up supplies, pet rescue decal, ball, and emergency preparedness information while supplies last.”

At the event and throughout June, the Tuscarawas health Department will collect donations that will go directly to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society and the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound.

“Purina dog and cat food, scoopable cat litter, and cleaning supplies. Donations can be dropped off at the health department lobby Monday through Wednesday from 8 am to 4 pm; Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm; and Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.”

Other pet preparedness tips include keeping a current photo in case of separation and include pets in practice evacuation drills.
