The Tuscarawas County Health Department is marking National Public Health Week by highlighting key accomplishments from last year.

The department has released its 2025 annual report on Facebook, outlining a wide range of community services.

Community Relations Director Jennifer Demuth says staff provided 180 car and booster seats to local families, completed more than one-thousand food safety inspections, and conducted nearly 22-hundred medical appointments. Last year the department investigated nearly 200 animal bites, provided more than 1,600 vaccines, and distributed over 1,100 Narcan kits—helping reverse 55 overdoses, and more.

The report also shows COVID-19 remained the most reported communicable disease, though cases dropped sharply to 387, while Lyme disease cases rose significantly in 2025 to 169. The department also led 56 community education programs and collected nine tons of scrap tires.

According to the report, county births outnumbered deaths in 2025, with 1,187 births and 1,088 deaths. The full report details health services spanning every stage of life.

The report – which is available online – shows heart disease and stroke were the leading causes of death, followed by cancer and respiratory illness.
