Mary Alice Reporting –
With another lack of quorum at the City of Uhrichsville Council meeting, temporary appropriations could not be approved before the end of 2023.
Three council members were present at Thursday’s meeting, with Amy Myers, the fourth person, serving as President Pro Temp.
The 2024 temporary appropriations were on the agenda but with a lack of members the meeting could not proceed.
Tuscarawas County Auditor Larry Lindberg says that a temporary or permanent budget needs approved for the New Year.
“Legally they have to pass an appropriation measure before they can spend any money in the New Year. Also, even though it may be passed, that appropriation it’s official until they notify us here in the auditor’s office and we give them the indication that it’s okay.”
A special meeting has been scheduled for January 2nd, at 7pm, which will provide the opportunity for new council members to be sworn in and then the temporary appropriations passed.
Lindberg notes that with the possibility of approval just a few days into 2024, there should be no lag in payroll.
A permanent budget then must be approved before the end of March.
