The suspects in some thefts in Stark County eluded authorities on a series of high-speed chases that finally ended in Carroll County Saturday night with the driver getting tasered.

New Philadelphia State Highway Patrol Commander Lt. Johnie Maier says on Saturday around 10 p.m. Tuscarawas County authorities were notified that Massillon Police ended their pursuit of a red Saturn View on state Route 21 as it entered Tuscarawas County. The State Highway Patrol found the vehicle speeding on 21 South in Strasburg and tried to pull it over on I-77 South. The Saturn continued to flee through Dover and onto state Route 39 into New Philadelphia, at times reaching speeds of around 100 miles per hour.

Eventually troopers and Carroll County deputies surrounded the vehicle with a rolling roadblock, bringing it to a stop. Maier says the driver continued to resist after the vehicle stopped.

Both the driver and a passenger were in the Tuscarawas County jail Monday. Maier says the driver, 53-year-old Shawn Zinn of Malvern, will likely be indicted on charges that include felony fleeing. Maier says the passenger, 44-year-old Justin Broad of Alliance, was wanted for a parole violation. Maier says authorities are investigating whether some items recovered from the vehicle are related to thefts in Stark County.

No officers were hurt and no vehicles were damaged in the pursuits.
