Storage unit thefts are primarily being reported out of the northern end of Tuscarawas County.
Sheriff’s Detective Cole Morris says that items have been reported stolen from units from Wilkshire Storage and Storage Solutions in Lawrence Township, and Bear Kub Storage, in Strasburg.
“I’ve been working closely with other agencies in Stark and Carroll County. Sounds like they have been receiving the same type of reports and we actually have some recovered property that Jackson Township recovered that is related to some of our storage unit break-ins.”
Property taken varies, notes Morris.
“Pretty much anything you can think of is being taken. Typical tools and furniture but there’s all kinds of stuff that has been reported with us so far. You name it it’s been taken.”
Detective Morris asks anyone renting a storage unit to check on it and report if a lock has been broken, replaced, or if any items are missing.
“Small issue we’re running into is people who rent storage units they’re not typically checking on them and we’re having a hard time tracking down who all has a unit and who all is missing property. They discover their locks been cut or they are missing items out of their storage unit to make sure they report it the local authorities in their jurisdiction. Even if someone doesn’t believe they have anything worth value, but they know their unit was entered, that might still help us track some of the property down and solve this.”
Morris notes they have some security video and other evidence, but the investigation continues.
