Thomas Edward “Ed” McPherson, 76, of Canton, formerly of Tuscarawas, passed away at his home after an extended illness on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Born July 12, 1946 in Dover, he was a son of the late Homer and Bessie Mae (Richards) McPherson.

Ed was a 1964 graduate of Midvale High School where he was active in athletics, playing football, baseball, and basketball. After high school, he attended Fairmont State University in West Virginia. Ed was employed by Joy Manufacturing/Howden Buffalo for 43 years, until his retirement in 2010, and enjoyed going to monthly breakfast meetings of former Joy employees.

He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Uhrichsville-Dennison Bowling Hall of Fame. Ed was a fan of NASCAR, the Cleveland Indians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes, enjoying attending their events. He also liked hunting, fishing, and playing Jass with his friends. Ed proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Tuscarawas Warwick Volunteer Fire Department and was named Fireman of the Year in 1993. He was a longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas. Above all else, Ed treasured spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

On August 12, 1966, Ed married the love of his life, Cheryl A. (Willison) McPherson, and was looking forward to celebrating 57 years of marriage in August. Together, they have two daughters, Melissa (Vernon) Webster and Heather McPherson, and grandsons whom he called “his boys”, Jordan McPherson and Jayden Webster. Ed is also survived by his brother, David McPherson, and sisters, Elaine Hawkins and Susie McPherson, as well as several nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Browning.

Services, officiated by the Rev. A. Wallace Anderson, will be held at noon on Thursday, March 30, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Tuscarawas. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and will conclude with a 7:00 p.m. Countywide Firefighters Memorial Service.
