Thomas J. Polka, age 82, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, June 9, 2023, in his residence following a period of declining health.
Born in Union Hospital at Dover on July 26, 1940, Tom was a son of the late Joseph Polka and Catherine (Zambo) Polka.
He worked his way through Fenn College which is now Cleveland State University where he became a Professional Engineer. For 10 years he worked for Osborn Engineering and retired from ODOT. In his free time, Tom enjoyed trout fishing, golfing, and spending time at his cabin.
He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Virginia Dillon whom he married on April 22, 1967, their children, Dan Polka and Tina (Stan) Lawrence; a granddaughter, Rebecca Lawrence; and his siblings, Gerald (Karen) Polka, Judy Mendel, Faye (Fred) Fiek, and Cathy Gritzan.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ken Mendel.
In keeping with Tom’s wishes, cremation will take place with a private burial to take place in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory is handling arrangements.
