Thomas J. “Tommy” Chenevert, age 71, of Dover, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2022, in Dover’s Hennis Care Centre following a long illness.

Born February 26, 1951, in Napoleonville, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Gerald and Olivia Sussman Chenevert. Tommy graduated from Assumption High School in Napoleonville and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Southeastern Louisiana University. He was employed as a petroleum engineer for both Tidewater Petroleum and Halliburton. Tommy married the former Barbara Ferry Turney on April 6, 1986, and the couple has resided in Dover for the past 28 years.

Tommy was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Napoleonville and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his step-children, Bradford (Barbi) and Jennifer Turney; his grandson, Logan Turney; his sisters, Clare (Rodney) Acosta and Sue (Tommie) Aysenne; his brothers, Matthew and Jerry (Debbie) Chenevert; and his many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Stein, and his brother, Mark Chenevert.

Honoring his wishes, Tommy will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be later in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery, Napoleonville. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Instead of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Tommy’s memory be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
