Dover Schools is proud to have three building recognized as 2026 Governor’s Science of Reading Champions.

Dover Avenue Elementary, East Elementary, and the middle school demonstrated commitment to evidence-based literacy instruction to improvement student reading.

Superintendent Kari McCrate says the Science of Reading initiative emphasizes the focus of improving literacy marks at Dover City Schools.

“We take tremendous pride in embracing across this district that pre-K through 12 we are teaching students to read and that students are never done learning to read.”

She says the district prioritized aligning materials in all grades.

“To ensure that there was a consistent progress that aligned with best practices as embedded in research of how people actually learn how to read, so it includes phonics, vocabulary, comprehension.”

Dover’s three buildings were among 109 schools statewide to be awarded this recognition by Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
