Mary Alice Reporting –
Uhrichsville’s mayor previously posted to Facebook that he was accepting résumés for a council seat appointment, but that information is incorrect.
Councilperson Wendy Mann submitted her resignation effective December 18th and Mayor Mark Haney went to the city’s social media page to take applications and conduct interviews for the At-Large seat. Normally, a party central committee would get involved but Mann was elected as an Independent.
Council President Robert Cottrell issued a statement noting that the mayor does not have the initial authority to appoint a councilperson replacement.
The correct procedure is that Uhrichsville Council has 30 days to name a new member, and if they were unable to do so, then it falls to the mayor, which would not be Haney since he will no longer hold that position in 2024.
Any eligible resident interested in the council position can send a letter of interest, with résumé, to the Uhrichsville Council Clerk at the city building, 305 East 2nd Street. The deadline is January 8th.
Cottrell is expected to ask for the replacement selection to be held at the city’s regular meeting on January 11th.
