Mary Alice Reporting – A New Philadelphia woman was able to escape a Sunday afternoon blaze.

Firefighters were toned out at 2:30pm to an apartment building on Bank Lane SW.

Arriving on scene, in about four minutes, units observed smoke coming from the second floor, says Assistant Chief Matt Tharp.

“Occupant of the fire apartment was found walking in the street with a large amount of soot on her face. An additional medic was requested. Contact was made with the on scene police department units, who believed everyone was out of the apartment.”

Firefighters found smoke coming from the apartment kitchen.

While the incident is still under investigation, officials believe the cause to be a toaster that had overheated.
