The First Town Days Festival is set to kick off this Friday at Tuscora Park.
This is the 46th year for the festival, which features five days of rides, food, games and entertainment. President Joe Croft says one of the highlights returning this year will be the afternoon music.
“We have entertainers scheduled, a couple of entertainers every afternoon. Listen to some really good local entertainment.”
New to the festival this year will be some food trucks, potential laser tag and Mountaineer Safari, which is a petting zoo. While it’s exciting to bring in new attractions, Croft believes the festival will always focus on the long-standing traditions.
“First Town Days is very much a family festival and we pride ourselves on keeping it that way. That’s important to us.”
Friday evening, the parade will step off at 6:30pm at the intersection of 3rd and Park Avenue. It will turn at W. High Avenue and onto N. Broadway, ultimately ending at Tuscora Park. Motorists are asked to use caution that evening due to roadblocks and the increased traffic and pedestrian presence.
The popular fireworks display will return on Saturday night, hosted by the City of New Philadelphia at 10pm. Due to the placement of the fireworks, parking that night will be extremely limited, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early. A safety perimeter will be set up by the city’s fire department.
