A Dover man is facing a mandatory 25 years to life in prison after being convicted of sex crimes against a child.
A Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court jury deliberated for around four hours before finding 34-year-old Jacinto Herrera-Raymundo guilty of rape and gross sexual imposition. Assistant prosecutor Fred Scott requested the verdict during closing arguments.
“We ask you to find this man guilty because he knows what he did, and you too know what he did, and the State of Ohio has proven it.”
The trial got underway last Tuesday and included testimony from the Dover police detective who oversaw the investigation, the child, her mother, and Raymundo himself.
Defense attorney George Urban noted the lack of physical evidence against his client and tried to discredit the child, who was 11 when the abuse began.
Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for next Monday provided an interpreter is available.
