Mary Alice Reporting –

Local municipalities are getting ready for Trick or Treat with many scheduled for Saturday and on October 31st.

This evening, WTUZ and other businesses will be in Dennison for the First National Bank of Dennison Trunk or Treat, beginning at 6pm.

With many treat gathering events taking place as it gets dark, New Philadelphia Police Chief Tessa Pohovey reminds participants to be safe and think about what a costume looks like when the sun goes down.

“Obviously, visibility that’s going to be one of the bigger things to keep them safe. Weather that’s bright costumes or have lights, flashlights, glow sticks, glow-in-the-dark stickers. All those things are available to increase visibility.”

Also, for the costumes, she recommends for parents to test the outfits and makeup on kids in case of an allergic reaction.

Motorists are also advised to use caution in areas where festivities are happening.

“Drivers need to be cognizant that that’s going on and they should be cautious anyway, but let’s us some extra caution at this time of year just for all the pedestrians out [and] little kids.”

For pedestrians, Chief Pohovey says to never assume a vehicle is going to stop and to not walk cellphone distracted.
