State Troopers are using this point of the summer travel season to urger drivers to keep an eye on their speedometer.
The State Patrol says speeding remains a leading cause of crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Ohio roadways.
New Philadelphia Post Commander Lt. Johnnie Maier says his troopers will be out along 77, especially targeting extreme speeders – those going 20 miles an hour or more over the posted limit.
“That’s not to say that anybody going less and they’re safe that’s not correct, but we do have an abundant number of motorists traveling at those high risk what we would say almost reckless speeds.”
The patrol says faster speeds will reduce reaction times for drivers, maki it longer to completely stop a vehicle, and speeds increase the force of impacts and injuries in an accident.
Maier says troopers will still also be looking for signs of impairment or distracted driving.
