Nick McWilliams reporting – The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded Thursday night to an incident involving a vehicle and a lawn mower on Crooked Run Road.
The initial call came in around 7:05 p.m. to troopers from the New Philadelphia Post, according to Sergeant Jen Makris.
She says that units responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway, going through multiple yards and striking one person.
“The truck went off the roadway, struck a utility pole, and it also struck a person driving their lawnmower, mowing the grass, about 50 to 60 feet off of the roadway.”
The person on the mower was thrown, and was eventually taken to a hospital via LifeFlight with serious injuries. Makris did not have an update on the condition of the victim, and a name has not been released at this time.
She says that the driver of the truck was taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Alcohol and speed are believed to be potentially have contributed to the incident.
