Firefighters from Sugarcreek and several other departments spent about 10 hours at a fire involving a large shed full of hay and farming equipment in the six thousand block of Stony Point Road in Sugarcreek Township Tuesday.  Nobody was injured.

Sugarcreek fire chief John Meek says the cause appears electrical – possibly a short involving machinery in the shed.  He says the fire was reported at 12:30 pm.

“The farm sat on top of a hill and many residents along Broad Run Dairy Road saw the smoke, so they had numerous calls on this fire.”

Meek says the shed had about 150 large square hay bales inside along with a combine, a corn-planter, and other pieces of equipment. It’s all a total loss, estimated at between 400 and 500 thousand dollars in damage.

He says firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading to a few large chicken barns that were near the shed.
