Mary Alice Reporting –
A local organization that provides food for insecure children has held their final packing day for this year.
TUFF Bags is a charity organization started by Tuscarawas County Juvenile and Probate Judge Adam Wilgus.
Coordinator Lisa Walker says over this past week, volunteers packed 10,410 meal bags that will then be distributed to approximately 1,600 children in school district of Dover, Newcomerstown, Tusky valley, Indian valley, Claymont, and central Catholic.
“Food insecurity is something that we are always trying to raise awareness about. It’s something that is often overlooked and people don’t realize how big of a problem it is right here in our backyard, so we are just trying to constantly striving to reach more children and working to eradicate food insecurity here in Tuscarawas County.”
Residents can get involved by volunteering at other upcoming packing dates, located at the TUFF Bags warehouse on 1060 Cookson Avenue, in New Philadelphia. The Next date will be January 6th at 8am, and for additional details, including sign-up, go online to www.volunteersignup.org/YLDQP.
