The Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce and others gathered at the Performing Arts Center Wednesday evening to honor award winners.

Among them was volunteer of the year, educator of the year, citizen of the year and hall of fame, who were Lisa Keim, Aaron Davis, Scott Gerber, and Trent Troyer, respectively.

Davis, a teacher at Indian Valley Local who has been with the district for 13 years, said he takes pride in offering opportunities to kids.

“Seeing the light bulb moments and seeing growth of students over time. You see that not only in the classroom, but I get the opportunity to see it on the marching band field [and] on the basketball court.”

The Chamber’s Citizen of the Year went to Scott Gerber, of Belden Brick, who was recognized for his involvement with the Swiss Festival and the Community Arts Council. Gerber noted that anyone can get involved and donate their time.

“People think they don’t have any expertise, or they can’t do anything, but that’s probably not true. Everybody is looking for help, there’s a niche for everybody. For me it was mostly about, if there’s something or passion you have get interested in that passion.”

The Organization of the Year went to Access Tusc, the Small Business was SSB Community Bank, and Wayne Door was recognized as the Large Business of the Year.
