Nick McWilliams reporting – The Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce welcomed in Ohio’s 12th District House of Representatives member Troy Balderson for their yearly Legislative Luncheon.

A southeastern Ohio native and graduate of Zanesville high School, Balderson has served as a state representative and senator, first taking office in 2009.

Speaking before chamber members and various leaders from Tuscarawas County, Balderson focused on what he called “reckless” spending, saying that he will keep striving for more controlled federal spending.

“We have to stop spending. My little grandson who was born five weeks ago today has a $105,000 hanging over his head. That’s how you can look at it, and that’s where we are. We are at $31 trillion, and it has amplified during this pandemic. Which, we all get it. We knew what that was, and we knew that there were things that needed to be done. But it’s time to start reigning it back in.”

Balderson also discussed the ongoing conversations in Congress related to concerns on the social media platform TikTok and his desire to invest in natural gas for energy dependency.

He went on to note that Ohio remains at the forefront of innovation with the development of the Intel manufacturing plant in the 12th District, and touted the historic low of 3.8-percent unemployment rate in the state.
