Nick McWilliams reporting –Tuscarawas County has hired a new director to head the Emergency Management Agency.

Noah Porter, who had been a planner for the EMA before transitioning to deputy director, will transition to the full-time director role to replace Alex McCarthy.

County Human Resources Manager Kris Lowdermilk says that Porter will take over following the completion of his reserve duty for the U.S. Army on May 8th.

“He’ll be a great addition. He worked under our former director, and holds a lot of the national and state certification for the position. It’s a good hire.”

Porter has a bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management Planning from Akron University, and a Master’s degree in the same subject field from Arizona State University.

Lowdermilk adds that he also already has connections with local resources thanks to his previous work in the county. He adds that the county will evaluate if they need to fill the deputy director role once the new hire gets acclimated.

Porter will enter with a $47,444.80 salary.
