Nick McWilliams reporting – Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy K-9 Bruno will be staying in a familiar place in his retirement.
With approval from Tuscarawas County officials, the dog, a five-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, will stay with Deputy Chris Edwards, who has been his handler since he was first brought in.
Edwards, who was in attendance at a Monday commissioner’s meeting with his former sidekick, spoke highly of Bruno’s service and thanked the county for staying with tradition in allowing him to adopt him.
“I’m proud of his service that he provided for this county. I know we took countless criminals off the streets, along with finding a lot of endangered people with him.”
The dog was purchased for $1 by his handler, a customary standard upon retirement. Edwards was joined by Captain Travis Stocker at the meeting.
Bruno’s career came to an end at the end of May this year, with Edwards saying that in over a half a decade of work, he had been one of the best K-9’s to work with he had ever seen.
