The Tuscarawas County Board of Elections held an emergency session on Tuesday to complete an audit of the November 7th general election.

Although an audit is usually required on even years, the Ohio Secretary of State called for one due to two important statewide issues voted on in the last election.

Tuscarawas County Board of Elections Director Gail Garbrandt said they were required to hand count votes on both statewide issues and an additional race.

“We were required to audit Issue 1 [and] Issue 2 and then the third race the board had to select either a countywide issue, which we didn’t have, or an issue with the largest number of precincts. So we chose to audit the Buckeye Career Center Tax Levy.”

Garbrandt added the Elections Office was required to count 5% of all ballots in the county.

After finding the audit 100% accurate, a motion was made to approve the results.
