Tuscarawas Commissioners commended three retirees for their multiple years of service to the county.
Proclamations were read by Clerk Rhonda Jordan and among the recognitions was for Lori Smith’s time as County Recorder.
“She began her career in the recorder’s office in 1977, and whereas Lori ran and was elected to be the Tuscarawas County Recorder in 2001, and whereas Lori’s one and only job has been in the recorder’s office for her 47 years as a public servant.”
Smith thanked the Commissioners for the acknowledgment.
“Appreciate all the kind word today. It’s been a pleasure and a honor, and I’m so humbled by this experience. Never dreamed I’d be here 47 years but it’s bittersweet, but life goes on and I’m looking forward to it and spending time with my grandkids.”
Meanwhile, leaving the Clerk of Courts office is Jeanne Stephen, who began her career as the deputy clerk in 1988 before being appointed to the remaining Clerk of Court term in 2011. Stephen was elected in 2012.
“Jeanne is also the second women to hold the position of Tuscarawas County Clerk of Courts. Jeanne is a strong and compassionate leader for her employees and the community. She will be missed by both.”
Stephen was appreciative for her time in office.
“It’s been an honor to serve and work in the public. It’s been a great career for 36 years. Constant learning and growing. I’ve had an awesome staff. I give a lot of credit to my staff.”
Not in attendance but also recognized was Sylvia Argento, who started her career as a case worker for Job and Family Services in 1988 and became the first county administrator for Tuscarawas County Probate and Juvenile Court in 1998.
