The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office is identifying the person whose remains were found in a motor home fire in Dover Township on Friday.
Captain Adam Fisher with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office says foul play is not suspected in the blaze on Von Kaenel Drive.
After it was extinguished, investigators found the remains of a human and a canine inside the destroyed motor home that was parked next to a house.
The individual has now been identified as Samuel Crawford, 38, of Massillon.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.
“At this time there is no other indication as to the cause as to why the individual was not able to remove themselves from the inside of that motor home. I believe that the autopsy will potentially reveal if there were any additional causes aside from the fire.”
Fisher says the investigation continues, but a portable heating device appears to be the cause.
“That was placed up toward the front, or the driver and passenger seat area.”
The Dover, New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Bolivar, Mineral City and Sugarcreek Fire Departments as well as Smith Ambulance all responded to the fire. The Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Fire Marshall were among the agencies investigating.
The neighboring house was also damaged, with the siding significantly melted off that side and rear of the building.
