Gwen Rummell Reporting –
The Tuscarawas County Dog Pound had to take measures to prevent an outbreak after a puppy tested positive for a highly contagious virus.
Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious and deadly virus that causes GI disease in young, unvaccinated dogs.
The puppy, held at the pound from the 18th through the 20th, showed clear symptoms of parvovirus. The dog was reunited with its owner, but others had to be quarantined.
After their quarantine, no other dogs showed signs of the illness. The pound cleared the dogs and daily operations continue as normal.
