It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week and the Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Agency will post educational materials daily.

Director Jennifer James says this week emphasizes the need to be aware and be prepared.

“For Tuscarawas County we’re looking at primarily severe thunderstorms with high winds, lightening, flooding, and the possibility of a tornado. Those are the big ones for us.”

James says inclement weather can hit Ohio residents and preparedness can be having car and home kits, which can include water, flashlights, batteries, a weather radio, and any medications.

James notes that they will post daily topics this week on the county’s EMA Facebook page.

“Monday we’re going to focus on the difference between a watch and a warning, Tuesday we’ll talk tornado and safety related, Wednesday will be thunderstorms, Thursday flooding, Friday we’ll discuss safety kits, and Saturday we’ll discuss having a plan.”

Ohio will hold a tornado sire drill on Wednesday at 9:50am.

Additionally, Tuscarawas County tests the sirens on the first Monday each month at noon.
