Gwen Rummell Reporting –
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced the funding for 32 local drug task forces in the state.
Governor DeWine’s RecoveryOhio Law Enforcement Fund will award more than $2.4 million in grants to disrupt drug trade and prevent the sale of illegal narcotics.
The Tuscarawas County LEAD Drug Task Force was awarded about $93,000 in grants. Sheriff Orvis Campbell says, while they didn’t receive the full amount requested, the funding received will benefit the department and the public greatly.
“While it may seem that narcotics are everywhere, there are situations in which individuals, who have battled addiction for many years, have come clean and stayed clean. We’re very proud that we’ve been part of that, not just arresting them, but also helping them get into treatment.”
Sheriff Campbell says the grant money will go towards training, drug testing equipment, and getting arrested addicts into treatment facilities.
Once the grants are received, the Tuscarawas County LEAD Drug Task Force will look into specific areas of need and focus spending on them first.
