Over 4,000 birds were checked for opening weekend of Ohio’s spring turkey season.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife notes that compared to 2023, almost 300 more birds were harvested for opening weekend.

The top three counties are Belmont checking 146 birds and then Tuscarawas at 139, followed by Carroll and Meigs tying with 128.

Hunting hours in the south zone (83 of Ohio’s 88 counties) are from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset beginning Monday, April 29 and continuing until the season closes on May 19. The northeast zone’s hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset from May 6-26.
