Gwen Rummell reporting –

Tuscarawas County’s Traffic Box project awarded six students’ certificates for designing the newest art wraps in the center of town.

Wilma Mullet is the executive director of the Tuscarawas Arts Partnership and also a member of the City’s Downtown Design Standards Board of Review.

She helped develop the traffic box project, which gives high school art students from across Tuscarawas County the opportunity to display their creativity in the county’s seat.

“There was a lot more pieces this year compared to previous years, since last year was the pilot year. This year [it] seems like we had double the entries that came in. [It was] really exciting to see so much creative talent in this generation coming up and something that we can continue to cultivate and support as well.”

The three attending students, at a recent New Philadelphia council meeting, were given the chance to speak about their artwork and what it meant to them, including Lydia Salazar, a Buckeye Career Center student, RaeAnn Haring, from New Phila, and Ezri Palmer, from Strasburg School.

The traffic box wraps will be displayed in downtown New Philadelphia in the near future.
