A school-based health center at Tusky Valley School is on track for completion in August 2025.
Superintendent Derek Veransky says the goal of the facility is to support the well-being of students and residents, since the Zoarville community currently has one primary care provider.
“Four to five clinic rooms that are available. it’ll be staffed by a nurse practitioner, two nurses, and, I believe, two registration folks, and we have also designed it so it has two rooms for clinical counseling. We have designed it so that it has two rooms for clinic counseling. One side will be where our students will enter, so that would be if students are meeting with a counselor after hours or in the summer. During the school day they’ll just do that in their school building. There will also be a counseling office available to the community.”
He notes that this project is in partnership with Aultman Health.
“District owns the building. We’re overseeing all the construction and when it’s done, we’ll sign a lease agreement with Aultman but the district will still own it. They helped us a few years ago write the grant to get the telehealth into our school district. They were part of this grant writing process as well. Out of the $2.28 million we received, about $1.8 million of that came to the school district for construction. The rest went to Aultman for operating cost to get them up and running for one year.”
Construction is on track for completion by August. He hopes to host a open house during the district’s annual back-to-school blast.
