A manufacturing grant is awarded to the Tuscarawas Valley Industry Sector Partnership.
A state grant awarded $5.1 million to 35 organizations to focus on manufacturing, transportation, IT, and healthcare.
Tuscarawas Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Marla Akridge says they received $58,000, which will focus on six key areas.
“The first goal is community engagement. The second goal is assessing a map and inventory of all the existing workforce development programs, events, and organizations. The next one is aligning our local curriculums with the Ohio Manufacturing Competency Model.”
Other goals are strengthening pathways to careers, identifying and expanding paid training opportunities, and analyzing manufacturing employment rates.
Akridge says it will be through partnership collaborations.
“School districts, Buckeye Career Center, Kent State Tusc, and all of our manufacturing. The hope and the dream, once we get some initiatives with manufacturing, we can expand it to healthcare and some other job sectors.”
The TVISP is a regional consortium established by the Tuscarawas County Economic Development Cooperation.
