Two Bolivar residents are competing in the race to become the next state representative in the 51st Ohio House district.

Democrat Joe Rinehart is a marine veteran who used to run an internet service business that he started. Rinehart describes himself as an advocate for veterans’ rights, conservation, and other issues.

“Obviously, the environment is one of those, land and water, healthcare, keep the politicians out of the doctor’s office. I sat on the spam legislation committee back in the early 90’s.”

Republican Jodi Salvo is the director of substance use prevention services at Ohio Guidestone. Salvo says she’s a strong supporter of limited government. She also wants to direct state tax revenue from marijuana sales to help with suicide prevention causes.

“Currently we do not have funding in Ohio that comes down into the local level around suicide prevention. Me sitting in Columbus on boards, task forces, and testifying, I’m very in tuned to the challenges and barriers.”

The winner will take the seat currently held by republican Brett Hillyer. The district covers all of Tuscarawas and part of southern Stark County.
