Nick McWilliams reporting – A pair of long-time public employees in New Philadelphia are set to retire in the coming weeks.

Mayor Joel Day acknowledged the upcoming retirements during the most recent council meeting.

He says that both retirees have combined for decades of public service to the city.

“New Philadelphia City Police School Resource Officer Jen Horner’s 23-year duty with the city police department will conclude with her retirement on May 19th. And Chris Born’s 45-year career as custody for New Philadelphia School’s will conclude with his retirement at the end of the current school year.”

Day also commented on Born’s assistance with designing brick pillars at the Schoenbrunn Meadows cemetery.

Day offered his thanks for their dedication to the city.

“Both are people with many, many talents. Their commitment to excellence has been inspiring to all of us who know them, and have worked for them. We wish them good health and plenty of relaxation in their retirement years.”

Day did not mention who will step in for the police department in Horner’s school resource officer role.
