Uhrichsville is working on city improvements and making it easier for residents to repair homes.
At the latest meeting, council approved several ordinances amending or repealing regulations. Mayor Jim Zucal says this will help residents fix up their property.
“So ordinances 13, 14, 15, and 16 are all pertaining to city code. Those were, I felt, a burden on the residents of the city paying excessive amounts of money for improvements that they’re making to their home and properties. Adjusting the code whether it’s fence, siding, roofs or any improvements that are being done.”
Elsewhere, one needed project was the filter system at the water park.
“The Neptune Benson filter, which is a very large filter, it the main filter which should have been serviced every two years and in 18 years it’s never been done. We expended $18,000 getting that done. Our water park is running efficiently and effectively.”
Zucal adds he’s looking at updating the municipal building sign to something more modern.
“If you look at the front of the building we have an old sign out there that says Uhrichsville Municipal building. This isn’t a big expenditure. We’re looking at five to eight hundred dollars, but we’re going to get a new sign out front that looks like 2025. Were working with Bloom Printing and just dress up the front of the building.”
In the Uhrichsville service department, Director Cade Watkins says he’s been dealing with maintenance and repair issues.
“The backhoe and another truck. The one-ton truck has had some issues too. That’s another one we’re kind of looking at to gage if it’s something we want to keep putting money or if we need to find a new option for that.”
Watkins points out that things are moving regarding railroad crossing on Trenton Avenue, W. 1st street, and Holiday Avenue and his push to declare them abandoned.
“The exemption is granted so that’s the first step to abandonment, so step one is finally complete. It’s always a long process with the railroad but it’s nice to have that first step done.”
Both administrator’s also note $455,000 in grant funding for the reconstruction of approximately 1,480 linear feet of Wardell Street starting at ColorWrap and continuing to Trenton Avenue. In connection, the mayor applied for an ODOT Small Cities Grant for road improvements in the Wardell, Trenton, and Jaycee Road area.
