Following concerns of capacity to conduct the job, the auditor for the City of Uhrichsville sent in a resignation letter.
The document from Michael Maurer states that following a heart attack in February, he concurred that he is “unable to function in a full-time capacity for the city”. Other medical complications were also cited as causes for Maurer unable to fulfill the duties of the auditor position.
Mayor Jim Zucal wished Maurer well and noted that with the change it will get the city back on track in becoming fiscally responsible.
“He was a write in candidate, which I’ve been told which makes him an independent so then that allows the mayor to appoint a new auditor [in] Jeryl McGaffick, is the auditor that’s been doing all the work and she said she’s willing and I will be appointing her.”
The letter was effective immediately, with it being received on March 21st by the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections.
