Uhrichsville’s new administration has already begun work just eight days into 2024.

A Thursday meeting hosted a full council, with the newest member, Jerry McFerren sworn-in.

During Mayor Jim Zucal’s report, he noted efforts to maintain strong relationships with city businesses, getting a grasp on water park management, and asked council to provide a paving proposal list by the end of January.

Zucal also pointed out the need of straightening out Uhrichsville’s financials.

“This is a very serious matter to me so that’s why I’ve talked with the State Auditor’s Office [and] I’ve asked for an early audit. We need an overall project for the city. A three year plan. A five year plan. We need to look where we’re going to grow, what’s happening, where our expenditures are at.”

Amy Myers, the code enforcement officer, said she has already started issuing notices to help get the city cleaned up.

“Rode with some police officers around town. They’ve showed me a lot of properties that need cleaned up, so I’ve issued PIN notices. We’ve towed cars, we’ve ticketed cars. I’m not trying to be hardcore but it’s time to clean up the city and we’re not letting anything fall through the cracks.”

If an individual is elderly, Myers noted they are collaborating with the probation department to help with clean up.

Councilman Steven Patterson suggested providing resource options in addition to a notice, such as where items could be disposed of. Myers agreed and also proposed having separate events for each ward and not in one central location as was done at the park previously.
