Mary Alice Reporting –
The City of Uhrichsville is looking to apply for a grant for a new playground and letters of support are needed.
The Ohio Nature Works grant recently reopened and the deadline to apply is August 15th, so community support letters are needed by end of day Monday.
Service Director Cade Watkins says the new playground will be small and next to the current one.
“The name of it is Motion Smart Play Structure. It has all those new hands-on movables that they have for sensory sensitive people, and it’s ADA compliant, handicap accessible so it’s the whole nine-yards, but it’s just a smaller structure since it’s for two- to five-year-olds.”
Mayor Jim Zucal notes that this grant program usually does not have a lot of money available.
“We’re trying all avenues and what I know about the Nature Works grant that you try the first year and you usually don’t get it. There’s not a whole lot of money but you keep trying and eventually you’ll score.”
The city is expected to match at least 25% of the total $37,405, which would come from the park fund.
Anyone who would like to provide written support can send it to cwatkins@cityofuhrichsville.org.
