Nick McWilliams reporting – Blight remains a key talking point in Uhrichsville, with two homes given notice that they are currently uninhabitable.

Service Director Belle Everett told council recently that new Zoning Administrator Jack Legg has issued multiple warnings for property improvements on homes with clutter, debris, garbage, or other unsightly items outside.

In addition to those properties, two homes pose serious safety hazards, according to Everett.

“[Fire] Chief [Justin] Edwards marked two properties with two large, red placards which has a large red ‘X.’ These placards indicate that if there were a fire, it would only be an exterior firefighter operation because the structure is not safe to make entry.”

The homes were deemed unsafe through fire codes, and owners were given 30 days to comply with the notices.

It was also updated that city is working on an appeals board based off International Property Maintenance Code, consisting of three members that are not employees of the city, who have experience dealing with implementation of codes for dwellings and structures.
