Uhrichsville council is considering a contract for gas and electric as concerns over electric supply were relayed.

Joe Garrett, with Trebel, says cost increases are looming with demand outweighing supply.

“The prices are going up June 1st across all utility markets because Ohio has run out of power. What we think you should is allow us to purchase three years on the electric because we don’t see it coming down anytime soon. What we’re suggesting to you is to do three years. Let us purchase the first year under 9.25 cents and years two and three, since we don’t know capacity will be, purchase anything under seven cents and capacity will just get added to it. Capacity is a set regulated number. Whatever it is everybody pays across all platforms.”

The aggregate program allows city residents to opt in or out.

Melissa Dexter, with Constellation Energy, says the local area is part of the Pennsylvania, Jersey, Maryland Region.

“We are at such a deficient that they would have a nine fold increase that starts in June 2025 to June 2026. That’s just this year a nine fold increase. It’s not quite 900 percent this year. Loosing energy from one end. When you send it to the other end you don’t have the same amount because there’s always a little bit of line loss. They’re wanting them to improve the grid and it’s very important they do so, and all the things they’re doing is trying to support the amount of energy.”

She said there’s also a large draw due to AI technology.

Council took the three-year contract suggestion under consideration. The aggregate program is optional for city residents.
