Mary Alice Reporting –
Mosquito spraying, city hiring, and a new sculpture were among the items brought up during the Thursday City of Uhrichsville Council meeting.
To start off, Mayor Jim Zucal noted they are in talks with Thrasher Engineering regarding a bridge project that still needs funding, he attended a presentation where the Heritage Homes Award was given to Kenny and Paula Gribben, the owners of Freightrain Pizza.
The mayor also stressed the need for individuals to not blow grass clippings in the street.
“All that moves toward the catch basins and then our street department is out there trying to clean out basins and with all the rain we’ve had lately it’s been tough, not to mention is kind of unsightly.”
Uhrichsville is working with the Tuscarawas Health Department on mosquito spraying and a schedule will be coming soon.
Meanwhile, the city’s LoveTusc sculpture has been paid for, with the unveiling to occur on May 16th at the Performing Arts Center. Land was open near the city’s post office to place the art piece, but it will be installed at the park instead, with administration citing the need for it to be on city owned property.
Before the visitor portion, Council President Buck Cottrell spoke about the hiring process for Uhrichsville and that any grievances should be addressed to the mayor’s office and not at council.
“You certainly have the right to address city council, however, I would ask that you recognize that city council does not handle administrative functions. Council has no oversight on the discretionary decision of the mayor’s office.”
Other brief matters were the city awarded a Reeves Foundation Grant for a shed and cleanup at the park, no one showed up for a public hearing regarding the Poplar Street vacation for Bellstores and an ordinance was passed. Council also approved flood plain management regulations and legislation regarding the operation of golf carts and all-purpose vehicles.
