In the latest City of Uhrichsville news, their newest councilman was sworn in, and paving will begin soon.

Before council started the meeting, Scott Whitman, who was appointed by council to take over the Ward 1 seat, was officially sworn in on July 10th by Law Director Jeff Merklin.

During his report, Mayor Jim Zucal says they will soon see the most intense paving the city has seen recently in terms of dollars spent, which includes $45,000 for alleys.

“Our contractor is going to be Barbicas Construction out of the Akron area. That will be coming soon. We hope to have that done by the time school starts on August 20th.”

The bulk of paving, about $120,000, will be to redo N. Water Street extension from Roanoke Avenue to Indian Hill Road. With the ongoing construction at McCauley Drive and traffic backing up, Zucal says he has been in contact with ODOT and the city’s paving contractor.

“Some of the options we’ exploring is a night-time project. Another option is maybe postponing that. The total length of the ODOT project is October, but the bulk of the roadwork will be done in August, so we are coordinating that, and we will not have an intense paving project on N. Water Street and have where there’s lane closures at McCauley Drive

Meanwhile, council also took action of approving ordinances to give the police and fire chief raises. Service Director Cade Watkins notes that for the Water Park they employee teenagers and are always in need of staffing due to the students having other summer activities and once they go back to school.
