Nick McWilliams reporting – The city of Uhrichsville met the deadline for their new budget for the fiscal year, carrying over roughly $64,000 in its general fund to the next cycle.

The city was able to complete the appropriations despite hiring a new auditor and transitioning to a new financial system for handling budgeting and spending.

Finance Committee Chair Amy Myers says that she is concerned with the carryover heading into the next operating year, saying that in previous budgets, over $400,000 has been carried over previously.

“Don’t forget, we have had COVID, American Rescue Plan Act money, or whatever you want to call it, for the last three years. And we wouldn’t even have [the carryover.] I know you get tired of me talking about the general fund every single meeting, but I’m going to tell you until I’m blue in the face, we have to very, very careful. Pinching pennies, pinching pennies.”

The appropriations for 2023 came in at $5.85 million, which includes salaries, operating expenses, and other vital spending measures to keep the city moving.
