A Uhrichsville man will spend at least 20 years in prison for the attempted murder of an ex-girlfriend and faces a new trial on charges he retaliated against a victim after a jury found him guilty in November.

Judge Michael Ernest on Monday sentenced 44-year-old Carl Reynolds to a total of 20 to 25 ½ years in prison on five counts, including attempted aggravated murder with a firearm specification.

Authorities say Reynolds stalked the victim, blocked her vehicle with his, and shot her in the head through the vehicle’s windshield, leaving her bloody and with a skull fracture. However, she was able to escape and drive herself to the Uhrichsville Police Station.

Reynolds pleaded not guilty, but a jury took less than two hours to convict him after a week-long trial in November.

Court records show Reynolds has been indicted again, this time on felony counts of retaliation and violating a protection order.

The indictment says in the week after the jury’s November 12th verdict, Reynolds recklessly violated a protection order and threatened the victim of a crime because the victim filed criminal charges.

Reynolds pleaded not guilty and is in the Tuscarawas County Jail.
