Residents of the Twin City area and beyond are invited to share the story of clay as the Clay Capital Heritage Center launches its capital campaign.

Community members were invited to a soft open house Tuesday and were able to see the gift shop, the cafe area, and a few items slated for the museum portion.

Director Wendy Zucal says it’s been a long time coming to get the Clay Heritage Center to this point.

“We’ve worked with five different mayors. We had to buy the building, get it secured, and everything from a new roof, to brick walls, and an elevator that cost a lot of money. A lot of challenges along the way.”

Zucal says it’s not ready to open to the public, but the hope is for full completion by the end of 2027.

“We’re very close to finishing the first floor. We have to finish the exhibits, but the rest of the building is pretty much done, and then we’ll head up to the second floor and work on that.”

An estimated $2 million has already been put into the building, and roughly $500,000 is needed to finish the downstairs.

A Capital Campaign was launched to help raise the still-needed funds. Donation information can be found by calling the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum at 740-922-6776.
